I really loved the Knit-round Scarf of The Knit Stitch. I was especially impressed with its possibilities after Elaine Rowley knit one in a very light yarn and wore it with a sleeveless summer suit. Since this is one of the pieces that I had decided should be explored in each book of this series, I decided to do one for this book in a very open knit-and-purl stitch.
The stitch used is a variation of rib: 2 right-side knit stitches sit on either side of a simple lace panel. This lace panel is just a yarn over, purl 2 together. Why a purl 2 together rather than a knit 2 together? If you try each of them, you’ll find that the purl 2 together is an easier movement. You’ll appreciate this choice when you do 48 of them in each row.
This piece could have been done in the round (which would have made it another Knit-round Scarf), but it would have made the pattern much more difficult.
